Just having some fun with the 6 inches of snow that we received. The first part of this is me walking/breaking some ice that had formed in a low area and then me walking on snow, which has a frosty glaze on top of it. Recorded with the handy/zoom h-4n recorder using its built-in microphones. The built-in microphones can be adjusted to pick up sound from 90 degrees around the microphones to 180 degrees. For this recording, i had them on 180 degrees. *note, you will also -- if you listen carefully -- hear a male robin singing in a tree. Pretty unique combination - the snow and ice being crunched with the typical sound of spring in background. He must have been one tough bird!.

Squawking, water sounds, calls from the birds, some conversation from the humans watching about 30 seconds in and well in the background. Zoom h2 with build in microphones and wind shield. This recording was made on a warm, clear day in early june right on the sandy bank of the mississippi river -- between illinois and missouri. You hear the low, strong surge of the diesel engines as a barge slowly passes through and, what i find most enjoyable, you hear the gentle lapping of the river as the waves reach the sandy shore. You also hear various birds, including the common red-winged blackbird. Even though this recording was made around 3pm in the afternoon, you also hear a low chorus of insects adding to the relaxing summer-like ambience. A very peaceful, yet strong soundscape of a majestic natural wonder that’s been here for millennia. Recording made with the zoom h4n, using the built-in internal mics.

For a podcast project i needed some coffee related sounds so i recorded our techni-vorm moccamaster, filter coffee machine as it brewed a full pot.
